Nando's Peri Peri Chicken

Not so brave.

I always order this because I share with my kids.

I tried the extra hot (when kids decided to have something else)... but it's too hot for me. So I end up ordering lemon and herb.

I miss Nando's Peri Peri chicken. My husband has been away for almost 3 weeks now. That means, I haven't gone to Nando's for 3 weeks already. I guess the first to I want to be when hubby comes back is go to Subang Parade and order not quarter but half chicken peri peri and eat my heart out.

LOL.

Kimchi Ramen

My favorite noodle dish - Kimchi Ramen. I always order this everytime I am in a Japanese Restaurant. Ordered this from Sakae Sushi. Loved the ambiance there. Love the self-order service where every table has a screen where you search your food and click order. The waiter/waitress would then come with your order.

Enoki Mushroom

Enoki mushrooms has been a favorite ever since I discovered it one day when I was looking for ingredients for my steamboat dinner. I have been buying it eversince and it even made its way to my stews. :D

Enoki mushrooms are edible mushrooms which are very popular in Asian cuisine, especially in Japan. The delicately flavored, interesting looking mushrooms are also cultivated and sold in other parts of the world, although they are most widely used in Asian and fusion foods. Asian grocers and specialty stores often sell enoki mushrooms, and they are sometimes also available in regular markets, depending on the region of the world that one is in. Beef Steak and Prawns

I got this beef stake (as always, medium rare) and prawns from Ole Ole Bali in Solaris. It has a different taste to it... western meal Indonesia style. Different but not bad. Served with sweet corn and coleslaw.

Baba-Nyonya

Last week, we went to Melaka to do some children's program. Melaka is the historical city of Malaysia. It is a 2-hour drive away from where we live. After the kids' program, our hosts took us to a Nyonya restaurant that served (of course) Nyonya food (on the image above). It was good to be able to taste the different side of Malaysian cuisine. Thanks to our hosts.

Peranakan and Baba-Nyonya (Chinese: 峇峇娘惹; pinyin: Bābā Niángrě; Hokkien: Bā-bā Niû-liá) are terms used for the descendants of late 15th and 16th century Chinese immigrants to the Nusantara region during the Colonial era. It applies especially to the ethnic Chinese populations of the British Straits Settlements of Malaya and the Dutch-controlled island of Java and other locations, who have adopted partially or in full Nusantara customs to be somewhat assimilated into the local communities. Black Pepper Crab

I've been missing seafood we usually get at Southseas Subang Restaurant. One night, hubby brought some crabs home, with ingredients and a recipe from his mom. We cooked it together. I served it with wine, with candlelights on. Extra romantic. Sans the kids. That's even more romantic.

Rump Steak

One of those pub grubs that I truly enjoyed: 21-day aged rump steak, medium rare. Got it from one of the pubs in Portobello, Notting Hill, London... courtesy of our friend, Fiona.

Tea, Anyone?

I am so in the mood for posting food photos. This time, let me take you to one of Malaysia's tradition: tea time. Malaysia has probably adapted this tradition from the British people. Tea time can vary from serving it with sandwiches or tarts. You can even serve it with cakes, cookies, or any other pastries. People enjoy it in between main meals. And of course, if you have a good tableware, it would make it much more special. :D

I don't have a perfect set of dining ware, but I have a good one I use which I bought second hand from e-bay during my crazy e-bay days. Anyways, if you're looking for a good and cute flatware, may it be gourmet flatware, stainless steel flatware, or any kind of flatware that you wanna use for that special moment with family or friends, just visit Pfaltzgraff. They have such cute and sweet designs. I gawked at the designs for a moment.

No wonder it Pfaltzgraff products made it to Food News.

Chicken Adobo from TGI Friday's

So this is another version of chicken adobo. It's definitely not a Filipino style chicken adobo. When we went to TGI Friday's in Subang Parade with a friend, I saw this in the menu list - a new item, chicken adobo. I had a strong urge to try, thinking it was a chicken adobo Filipino style. But I was rather baffled when this came. It's a chicken adobo southwestern style/Spanish style. It's worth a try though. At least I now know there are different types of chicken adobo.

Thali Meal

Thali Meal

Thali (Hindi: थाली, meaning "plate"; IPA: [t̪ʰɑːliː]) is an Indian meal with contents varying from one regional cuisine to another. A thali is a selection of different dishes, usually served in small bowls on a round tray. The round tray is generally made with steel with multiple compartments. Typical dishes include rice, dhal, vegetables, chapati, papad, curd (yoghurt), small amounts of chutney or pickle, and a sweet dish to top it. source: wikipedia.org

My husband's favorite food to order every time we eat at Gem's Restaurant.

Lamb Shank

Let me take you back to Malaysia with my lamb shank photo. I got this from a restaurant in Swiss Garden Resort in Damai Laut. I was impressed with the food presentation. The taste was good too.

We used to go to Swiss Garden Resort for a family holiday last time. A friend usually gave us a holiday package for free. Sometimes she would give us 6 night/7day-stay. What we did usually was to invite a family friend with us, split the 6 into 3 nights with them. It's great to be holidaying with other families. Sometimes, we would break the 6 days into staying at Swiss Garden Resort in Damai Laut for 3 nights and Swiss Garden Resort in Kuantan for 3 nights.

We are blessed with friends that love to bless us. :D

Dory Fillet

One thing I am grateful about is that the kids love to eat fish. I found dory fillet from Carrefour which was very cheap. One pack would cost something like 3RM. That's not even a dollar! Since my kids love eating something crunchy, I just cut it into small pieces, dip in flour mixed with turmeric powder, deep dry them... and my kids would be begging me to immediately serve the fish.

Macaroni Chicken Soup

I cooked this dish for the first time and discovered my kids loved it. Now it is making its way into my food-to-cook-for-my-kids list.

Kimchi

I love Kimchi. Kimchi is a Korean food. I had this when I took my parents for lunch at Ichi-ban, Sunway Pyramid.

According to wikipedia, Kimchi (pronounced /ˈkɪmtʃɪ/, Korean pronunciation: [kimtɕʰi]), also spelled gimchi, kimchee, or kim chee, is any one of numerous traditional Korean pickled dishes made of vegetables with varied seasonings. Its most common manifestation is the spicy baechu (cabbage) variety. Kimchi is the most common banchan, or side dish. Kimchi is also a common ingredient and combined with other ingredients to make dishes such as kimchi stew (kimchi jjigae) and kimchi fried rice (kimchi bokkeumbap).

Early kimchi was made of cabbage and beef stock only, and in the twelfth century people began to include other spices to create different flavors, such as sweet and sour flavors, and colors such as white and orange.[4] In modern times however, the main spice and source of 'heat' for most Kimchis is a paste made from red chile peppers, a New World vegetable that would not have been found in Korea before European contact with the Americas. Consequently, red chile peppers was not added to Kimchi recipes until sometimes after 1500.

Lolli Pop

He's not a lollipop eater. But since his sister loves sweets so much... and we bought this lollipop because of her, he got a chance to lay his tongue on it. Apparently, he didn't finish. Like I said, he's not a big fan of sweets. Just took photo of him to remind him one day that once, he tried lolli pop but didn't take to liking it.

Escabeche

No, this is not Malaysian food. Rather, escabeche, otherwise known as sweet and sour dish, is a Filipino dish. My parents are around so I have been eating a lot of Filipino food here.
